With recent temperatures, rain, and not so much sunshine sending most of the Richmond area into hibernation mode, cabin fever has become a real threat – after all, there’s only so many crock pots of chili and Netflix binges one can handle. Below are a few ways you can get out of your house locally, without freezing.

Learn Something

Richmond is a city ripe with museums fortunate enough to feature a variety of traveling or temporary exhibits. What this means for you: no matter how many times you’ve been there’s usually something new! Check out these exhibits that will be closing soon that you won’t want to miss.

Watch Something (Live!)

Forget the small screen, nothing beats live entertainment. Whether you’re looking for something family friendly or a date night idea for the adults, Richmond is packed with performing arts performances this winter.

  • At Altria Theater, upcoming shows include Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in Concert, The Underwater Bubble Show, and Waitress the Musical, presented by Broadway in Richmond and featuring two local girls cast as Lulu, the daughter of the production’s main character, Jenna.
  • The traditional symphony experience is flipped upside down when the Richmond Symphony is joined by aerial flyer acrobats, contortionists, dancers, jugglers, balancers, and strongmen for Richmond Symphony: Cirque de la Symphonie, led by guest conductor Benjamin Rous at the Dominion Energy Center.

Do Something

Looking for an activity that’s a little more active to burn off all that pent-up energy? Here are a couple of our favorites.

  • As Richmond’s only boutique bowling alley, River City Roll offers a brand new, sophisticated bowling experience replete with leather couches, elevated cuisine, and a hopping cocktail scene.
  • While technically RVA On Ice is freezing, once you get moving underneath the charming bistro lights of the newly re-opened 17th Street Market, you’re sure to warm up quickly. You better hurry though, the final day of the season is January 27.
