Good design can be seen and acknowledged.
Great design, however, can be felt with the heart -it can be experienced, it can inspire you.
Motivated by the beautiful designs and craftsmanship he had seen while on a job stint in Haiti, Andy Thornton, Founder and Co-Owner of LaDiff, decided this was something that needed to be introduced to back home.
By bringing back numerous handmade baskets and art, Andy inadvertently backed himself into being a retailer. He quickly realized he not only needed a place to house the goods but also floor space to show it off and advertising to share the news with friends in the area -thus, the LaDifference furniture store was born.
Now known as "LaDiff," the store's name comes from the Haitian motto, “Vive la Difference” - which perfectly fits the lifestyle that the store inspires. When entering in, you find great design everywhere. Thoughtful and thought-provoking, multi-purpose and multidimensional, well-engineered and well-built, every piece in LaDiff has been carefully selected.
LaDiff is definitely a family affair. Sarah Paxton, Co-Owner and President, joined her husband Andy in his endeavors and together they've built a culture for their team that feels like family. As a local business, each team member's input matters contributing to the success of the store. The staff isn’t just punching a clock, they are passionate about what goes inside your home, as well as the community where you live.
The LaDiff team inspires people, not just with the furniture that surrounds customers in their homes, but also by helping them fall in love with the city where they live. LaDiff has purposefully chosen to remain a single location in Richmond, Virginia because they love this community. They make a difference and enrich our community in many ways, including serving on local boards and supporting local charities, like the Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation.
LaDiff's commitment to making a difference in RVA is another reason we remain loyal to local.
