"Revitalized neighborhoods like Scott's Addition, a thriving culture and arts scene and the wide range of outdoor activity options on the James River make Richmond a standout amid the mid-sized cities starting to hit travelers' radar these days," said Trisha Ping, Lonely Planet's Eastern USA destination editor.

Richmond Region Tourism President Jack Berry said, “The VCU ICA is weeks away from opening. New restaurants, bars, breweries and hotels are on the horizon. The VMFA continues to bring blockbuster exhibits and the American Civil War Museum is in the midst of a major addition. I think it’s fair to say that 2018 stands to be a very exciting year for tourism in the Richmond Region.”

Thus far 2018 has gotten off to a great start. Expedia included Richmond on its list of “18 Cities that Must Be Seen in 2018,” Southern Living placed Richmond at #3 on its list of “10 Best Places to Travel in the South in 2018," and TripAdvisor recently included Richmond in its list of “Top Destinations on the Rise.” The region’s outdoor scene was recognized this past summer by Travel + Leisure in its list of “Best US Cities for Adventurous Travel” and the arts scene got a shout-out from Departures as having one of “The Most Inspiring Art Scenes in America."

Richmond’s food and beverage scene also continues to garner accolades for the region. Zagat called Richmond one of the "30 Most Exciting Food Cities in America” and just last week Fodor’s recognized Richmond as one of "19 US Cities with an Unexpectedly International Food Scene." HopCulture said Richmond is one of the "Top 5 American Beer Cities We're Excited for in 2018" and VinePair named Richmond #1 in "The World's Top 10 Beer Destinations for 2018."
